The Detroit Transit Police Department is a licensed police department under the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). We are actively seeking police officers who possess a current or expired MCOLES license. Our dedicated transit police officers are empowered with the authority to enforce laws and city ordinances within the vibrant city of Detroit, while primarily patrolling the city’s extensive Transit systems. These systems encompass the Detroit People Mover Elevated Rail System, Detroit Department of Transportation’s citywide bus system, Detroit Department of Transportation facilities and centers, and the M-1 Rail System.

The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is an advanced and fully automated light rail system that forms a vital part of the planned regional transit system. This system operates on an elevated single track loop within Detroit’s central business district, facilitating seamless connectivity.
The 2.9-mile Detroit People Mover system offers convenient transportation links to various key destinations, including courts, administrative offices, sports arenas, exhibition centers, major hotels, and commercial, banking, and retail districts. With frequent service and an unobstructed route free from vehicle or pedestrian traffic, the People Mover provides a hassle-free commuting experience throughout the central business district.
